BJP members in Udumalpet filed a police complaint against a lawyer for allegedly defaming Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on a flex banner. The incident occurred during a recent Periyar birth anniversary celebration.
Coimbatore: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed a complaint against a lawyer in Udumalpet, Tiruppur district, for allegedly defaming Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on a flex banner. The incident has sparked controversy and led to tensions in the area.
According to reports, the Progressive Lawyers Association had put up a flex banner in Udumalpet a few days ago to commemorate Periyar's birth anniversary. The BJP members claim that the banner contained content that defamed Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Condemning this act, BJP district president Mangalam Ravi instructed party members to file a complaint against lawyer Sadiq Basha. Today, BJP members visited the Udumalpet police station to lodge a formal complaint, demanding action against the lawyer.
The BJP delegation warned that if no action is taken, they would mobilize party workers and stage a protest. The complaint was filed by several district-level BJP functionaries, including district general secretary Vaduganathan, district secretary Mrs. Kala, women's wing district general secretary Radhika, and youth wing district secretary Balaguru.

Other BJP members present during the complaint filing included mandal presidents Mariappan, Nagamanickam, Subramaniam, Yuvan Mani, and Kannayiram, along with other party executives.
The incident has raised questions about the limits of freedom of expression and the use of public spaces for political messaging. Local authorities are expected to investigate the matter and decide on further action based on the complaint filed by the BJP members.

As tensions simmer in Udumalpet, both the BJP and the Progressive Lawyers Association are likely to be closely watching the developments in this case. The incident highlights the ongoing political sensitivities in Tamil Nadu and the potential for conflicts arising from differing ideological standpoints.
