Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan criticizes DMK government for denying permission to RSS centenary rally in Tamil Nadu. She calls it a violation of constitutional rights and urges Chief Minister to intervene.
Coimbatore: Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA of Coimbatore South constituency, has strongly criticized the DMK government for denying permission to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to conduct its centenary year rally in Tamil Nadu. In a Facebook post on September 21, she accused the DMK government of displaying a fascist attitude by refusing permission for the RSS parade.
Srinivasan pointed out that the RSS, founded on Vijayadashami in 1925, traditionally holds uniformed volunteer parades and public meetings across the country every year on this occasion. She noted that RSS parades have been taking place in Tamil Nadu since the 1940s. However, since the DMK came to power, the police have been denying permission for RSS events, including parades and public meetings.
The MLA highlighted that for the past two years, despite orders from the High Court and Supreme Court, the DMK government's police department has not allowed RSS parades. She accused the government of imposing various restrictions, likening it to an authoritarian regime, only after contempt of court cases were filed.
Srinivasan mentioned that this year, the RSS has applied for permission to hold parades and public meetings at 58 locations in Tamil Nadu on October 6. However, the police are delaying their response, and she suspects they might deny permission at the last minute, as done in the previous two years.
The BJP leader emphasized that RSS parades are disciplined marches of uniformed volunteers, similar to military parades, and have always been conducted peacefully. She pointed out that such parades are allowed without issues in all other states, including Kashmir, northeastern states, and even in Communist-ruled Kerala.
Vanathi Srinivasan argued that India is a democratic country where the Constitution allows anyone to organize parades and rallies. She accused the DMK government of violating fundamental rights while claiming to protect the Constitution.
Highlighting the significance of this year as the RSS centenary, Srinivasan noted the organization's unique achievement of functioning successfully for 100 years without any splits. She mentioned that many prominent leaders, including the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, and several Chief Ministers, have been associated with the RSS.
In conclusion, the MLA called upon Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to intervene and direct the police to grant permission for the RSS parade scheduled for October 6 in Tamil Nadu.
