Former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran Inaugurates State-Level Rekla Race Near Udumalpet

A state-level Rekla (double bullock cart) race was held near Udumalpet, Tiruppur district, as part of Kalaignar centenary celebrations. Former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran inaugurated the event by riding a bullock cart.



Coimbatore: A state-level Rekla (double bullock cart) race was organized near Udumalpet in Tiruppur district on Sunday, commemorating the Kalaignar centenary celebrations. The event, held at Samarayapatti, saw participation from over 500 double bullock carts from various parts of Tamil Nadu.

The competition was divided into two categories - 200 meters and 400 meters. Prizes were announced for the owners of double bullock carts that reached the specified target in the shortest time. Former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran inaugurated the races by riding a double bullock cart himself.



Winners of the Rekla competition were awarded certificates and cash prizes. The event was attended by Minister Kayalvizhi, Members of Parliament Pollachi Eswaran and Erode Prakash, Tiruppur South District Secretary Padmanaban, and Tiruppur South District Sports Development Team Deputy Organizer Rudhrappan, among others.

The state-level Rekla race near Udumalpet drew large crowds from surrounding areas, with spectators lining both sides of the road to witness the exciting competition. The traditional sport, deeply rooted in Tamil culture, continues to attract enthusiasts and maintains its popularity in rural areas.
