YouTuber Savukku Shankar, released on bail from Madurai prison, accuses Tamil Nadu government of suppressing truth and targeting him for his exposés. He vowed to continue ‘his work’ despite facing multiple legal challenges.
Coimbatore: YouTuber Savukku Shankar, known for his controversial statements, was released on bail from Madurai prison on September 25 evening. Following his release, he made several sensational allegations against the Tamil Nadu government and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
Shankar was initially arrested in May for allegedly making derogatory comments about female police officers. He was subsequently detained under the Goondas Act on the recommendation of the Chennai Commissioner. However, the Madras High Court quashed this detention order.
Speaking to reporters outside the prison, Shankar claimed, "I was transferred from Puzhal prison to Madurai in the early hours and detained for the second time because I said I wouldn't be afraid to speak the truth. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has never faced criticism. He has grown in his father's shadow."
Shankar alleged that his media office was sealed, bank accounts frozen, and his house sealed due to his exposés over the past seven months. He stated, "Even my mother's pension account and all other bank accounts have been blocked."
The YouTuber accused Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi of being extremely cautious about preventing the truth from coming out. He mentioned ongoing cases demanding a CBI inquiry into the Kallakurichi spurious liquor deaths. Shankar also claimed that DGP Shankar Jiwal had written a letter to the Home Department about methanol last December, stating, "If Chief Minister Stalin had acted on this letter, so many lives would not have been lost."
Shankar vowed to continue his work with the same vigor as before, promising to bring out the truth to the public. He said, "After some time, Savukku Media will start functioning again." He also alleged that his hand was broken in Coimbatore prison, but he was treated like a regular prisoner in other jails.
The controversial YouTuber's release and subsequent allegations have sparked renewed interest in his case and the issues he claims to be exposing.
