Elderly Woman Found Burnt to Death in Coimbatore's Athipalayam Area

An elderly woman's charred body was discovered in Athipalayam, Coimbatore. Police are investigating the suspected murder case, examining various angles including property disputes and family conflicts.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, the body of an elderly woman was found burnt in the Athipalayam area near Ganapathy in Coimbatore on September 26. Passersby who noticed the charred remains alerted the Saravanampatti police.

Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Initial investigations suggest that the victim was a woman aged between 60 and 70 years. It is suspected that she was murdered and her body dumped near a thorny fence.

The police have stated that the perpetrators did not use common accelerants like petrol or diesel to burn the body, as it was not completely incinerated. They believe some other flammable substance was used. The body has been sent to Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Interestingly, the police noted that no missing person complaint had been filed in the area for the past week regarding an elderly woman. This has led to speculation that the victim might not be a local resident.

The Saravanampatti police have registered a case and are investigating various angles. They are exploring possibilities such as whether the deceased was visiting relatives in the area, if she was brought from another locality and murdered here, or if the killing was a result of a family dispute between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. They are also looking into potential property disputes as a motive.

As the investigation continues, the police are working to establish the identity of the victim and apprehend those responsible for this gruesome crime.
