Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian inaugurated new health facilities in Coimbatore on Thursday, including an Urban Community Health Center in Singanallur built at a cost of ₹1.50 crore and a Public Health Unit building at the upgraded Government Primary Health Center in Thaliyor, constructed at ₹58.10 lakh.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, Coimbatore MP Ganapathi Rajkumar, and Coimbatore Corporation Mayor Ranganayaki, among others.

Speaking to reporters after the event, Minister Subramanian said that new buildings worth ₹2.08 crore in total have been opened, including additional buildings for the Urban Primary Health Center in Singanallur and buildings in Thaliyor. He also mentioned the inauguration of new facilities at the private GKNM Hospital in Coimbatore.

The minister clarified that the new buildings are additions to existing structures and do not require new doctor appointments. He announced that 2,253 doctors would soon be recruited, and the process is underway. Subramanian also addressed the ongoing appointment of 1,066 health inspectors, mentioning that 38 people have filed a case in court regarding this matter.

Regarding medicine availability, the minister assured that there is no shortage of medicines or vaccines in Tamil Nadu, with 13 types of vaccines readily available. He also stated that not all contract workers in the health department could be made permanent, emphasizing that proper selections would be made through MRB exams based on qualifications.

Addressing concerns about dengue fever, Subramanian challenged AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami to show where dengue cases exist in Tamil Nadu. He pointed out that during the AIADMK rule, there were 66 dengue deaths in 2012 and 65 in 2017, the highest in Tamil Nadu's history. In contrast, he stated that only six dengue-related deaths have occurred this year, mainly due to improper treatment in private hospitals or patients with low immunity.

The minister emphatically declared that there is no dengue outbreak anywhere in the state and assured that there is no need for panic. He also mentioned that precautionary measures are being taken to prevent the spread of infectious diseases during the rainy season, with fever camps to be set up in necessary areas after October 15th.
