Coimbatore: The Defence Industrial Park project in Coimbatore has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining Environmental Clearance (EC), paving the way for its development. This strategic initiative is set to boost the defence manufacturing sector in the region.

The State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Sipcot) is spearheading the development of this ambitious project. The Defence Industrial Park will be spread across 370.59 acres of land in Varapatti, Sulur, a location chosen for its strategic importance and potential for industrial growth.

One of the key highlights of this project is its potential to generate employment opportunities. It is estimated that the Defence Industrial Park will create approximately 10,000 jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy and skilled workforce in Coimbatore and surrounding areas.

The granting of Environmental Clearance marks a crucial step forward in the realization of this project. It ensures that the development of the industrial park will proceed in compliance with environmental norms and regulations, balancing industrial growth with ecological considerations.

This development is expected to attract defence manufacturing units, ancillary industries, and research facilities to Coimbatore, potentially transforming the city into a hub for defence-related industries in the region.
