Metro stretch to have fewer entry points

Stations of Chennai Metro Rail’s underground stretch will have only two entry and exit points open initially when the line becomes operational.

According to Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) officials, all the seven stations on this stretch have four entry and exit points. “But there may not be any requirement to open all the four. Initially, the number of people travelling may be less so we could do with just two entry and exit points. Eventually, as the number of people travelling increases, we will consider opening all four,” an official said.

Currently, about 10,000-12,000 people travel on the two stretches from Koyambedu to Alandur and Little Mount to Chennai airport. Officials expect this number to go up significantly after the underground stretch is opened.
