KCT Men's Basketball Team Clinches First-Ever Anna University Inter-Zone Title

Kumaraguru College of Technology's men's basketball team secured their first-ever Anna University inter-zone title on October 6, 2024, defeating Jeppiaar Institute of Technology in the final match at Sri Eashwar College of Engineering.

Coimbatore: The Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) men's basketball team has made history by clinching their first-ever Anna University inter-zone basketball tournament title. The team secured a dominant victory against Jeppiaar Institute of Technology in the final match on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Sri Eashwar College of Engineering.

KCT showcased their prowess on the court, winning the final match with a commanding 18-point lead (68-50). The tournament, held on October 5-6, 2024, saw fierce competition among the top teams from various zones under Anna University.

Sri Eashwar College of Engineering, the defending champions who had defeated KCT in last year's final, settled for third place this year. The Anna University inter-zone basketball tournament is regarded as a state-level competition, featuring winners from 19 zones across Tamil Nadu, with each zone representing at least 10 engineering colleges.

Kamlesh V, an MBA student at KCT Business School and team member, expressed confidence in the team's performance. "We have a strong team this year. We registered comfortable wins in most of the matches played in the tournament. Even the final match was won by 18 points," he said.

Team captain Sanchay Vishnu M R shared his pride in the achievement, stating, "It's a matter of pride to win the tournament for the first time, though we had missed the title by a whisker last year. We are confident that our players will display their talent at the national level, making the college proud."

The victory holds significant importance as the tournament serves as a platform for selecting players for the Anna University team, which competes in national-level basketball events. Given their outstanding performance, at least 4-5 players from the KCT team are expected to be chosen for the Anna University squad.

This triumph marks a milestone for KCT's basketball program and sets a new standard for the team's future performances in inter-collegiate competitions.
