Passenger Alert: Coimbatore–Nagercoil Express Among Trains Affected on July 17

Southern Railway has announced temporary changes to the services of four trains on July 17 due to track renewal and maintenance works at Karur Railway Yard. The Coimbatore–Nagercoil Express will be diverted, while the Palakkad Town–Tiruchchirappalli Express and two other services will face partial cancellations or changes in originating stations.


Coimbatore: Southern Railway has announced temporary changes to the services of four trains on July 17, 2026, to facilitate track renewal and maintenance works at Karur Railway Yard.

The changes include short termination of services, change in originating stations and route diversion.

Train No. 16811 Mayiladuturai–Salem Express, scheduled to depart Mayiladuturai Junction at 6.15 a.m., will be short-terminated at Virarakkiyam Railway Station. The train will not operate between Virarakkiyam and Salem Junction on July 17.

Train No. 16812 Salem–Mayiladuturai Express, scheduled to depart Salem Junction at 2.05 p.m., will instead originate from Karur Junction at 3.40 p.m. The service between Salem and Karur will remain cancelled for the day.

Train No. 16844 Palakkad Town–Tiruchchirappalli Express, scheduled to leave Palakkad Town at 6.30 a.m., will be short-terminated at Karur Junction. After completion of the maintenance works, it will operate as an unreserved special train from Karur to Tiruchchirappalli Junction with the same stoppages.

Train No. 16322 Coimbatore–Nagercoil Express, scheduled to depart Coimbatore Junction at 8.00 a.m., will be operated on a diverted route between Coimbatore and Dindigul via Podanur, Pollachi and Palani. Consequently, the train will skip stoppages at Coimbatore North, Pilamedu, Singanallur, Irugur, Sulur Road, Somanur, Tiruppur, Uttukuli, Ingur, Erode, Pasur, Kodumudi, Pugalur, Karur, Palaiyam and Eriodu stations. Alternative stoppages will be provided at Podanur, Pollachi, Udumalaipettai, Palani and Oddanchatram railway stations.

Southern Railway has advised passengers travelling on these services to take note of the revised schedules and route changes while planning their journeys.
