Coimbatore’s Gandhipuram area witnessed a festive spiritual atmosphere as hundreds of devotees gathered for the Maha Kumbabhishekam of the popular Sri Siddhi Vinayagar Temple. The two-day celebration featured yagams, special pujas and Vedic chanting, with devotees from across the city, including regular bus commuters, taking part in the festivities.
Coimbatore: The Gandhipuram area in Coimbatore came alive with devotion and festive fervour as the Maha Kumbabhishekam of the Arulmigu Sri Siddhi Vinayagar Temple was held today in the presence of hundreds of devotees. The sacred celebrations, marked by Vedic chants, yagnas, special homams and traditional rituals, filled the temple premises with a spiritual atmosphere.
The temple, administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, witnessed two days of elaborate religious ceremonies as part of its sixth Kumbabhishekam.
Speaking about the significance of the occasion, the temple priest said the temple has been a place of worship since 1972, when the area now known as Gandhipuram was called Kattoor. Over the years, Sri Siddhi Vinayagar Temple has become a cherished place of worship for devotees from Coimbatore and neighbouring areas.
The priest said devotees from across the city and surrounding regions regularly visit the temple to seek the blessings of Siddhi Vinayagar. Owing to its prominent location in Gandhipuram, the temple also holds a special place among those passing through the area, particularly devotees travelling through the Gandhipuram bus stand, many of whom make it a point to offer prayers at the temple.
As part of the sacred Kumbabhishekam celebrations, a Yagasala was set up within the temple premises. Various yagnas and special rituals were performed over the two days, accompanied by the chanting of Vedic mantras. Special homams, including Ganapathi Homam, were also performed as devotees gathered to witness the auspicious ceremonies.
The highlight of the celebrations was the Kumbabhishekam ceremony. Sacred water-filled kalasams were carried in a procession amid the sound of traditional music, before Sivacharyas performed the sacred rituals and poured the holy water over the kalasams atop the temple vimana and the sanctum sanctorum, accompanied by the chanting of Vedic mantras.
The temple was beautifully adorned with colourful flowers, garlands and traditional festoons for the occasion, adding to the festive grandeur. Devotees gathered in large numbers, offering prayers and seeking the divine blessings of Siddhi Vinayagar on the auspicious occasion.
