At 43.6 degree Celsius, city records highest temperature in 15 years

The city continued to be in the grip of blistering heat with Meenambakkam recording 43.6 degree Celsius on Thursday, the highest temperature in the last 15 years.

Nungambakkam recorded 42.6 degree Celsius.

R. Pradeep John, who runs the Facebook page ‘Tamil Nadu weatherman,’ said Meenambakkam had recorded 44.6 degree Celsius way back in May 2003.

For Nungambakkam, after May 2014 when the temperature was 42.8 degree Celsius, Thursday was the highest temperature recorded, he said.No respite

There may not be any respite for residents as the temperature is likely to hover around 42 degree Celsius in the coming days, according to officials of the Meteorological Department.

Though the sky is likely to be cloudy, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 42 degree Celsius.

Some relief from rain


Though the scattered rain on Wednesday gave relief to a few areas in the city, the temperature was still high at 40.1 degree Celsius in Nungambakkam and 42 degree Celsius in Meenambakkam respectively.

Showers in districts


However, several parts of Tamil Nadu like Salem, Vellore, Yelagiri and Ambur received a good amount of rainfall and it is likely to continue for the next 24 hours, the Meteorological Department officials said.
