The post mortem of the 25-year-old female elephant at Vaidhehi falls was carried out today by Dr. Uma Maheshewari at Saadivayal in the presence of forest officials.
The initial reports indicate that the 25-year-old female elephant had died due to intestinal illness. The pachyderm was unable to intake food for days together which led to a general health weakness. On the day it died, the animal fainted and fell down due to weakness which fractured it's rib causing severe internal bleeding and ultimately leading to its demise. The body parts have been collected and sent for further analysis to Chennai.
The calf was found roaming around the area of the corpse and the forest officials have put a watch to ensure it joins the herd of elephants in that area.
