Today more than 100 contractual labourers of the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation staged a protest at the Municipal Corporation Office alleging the contractors on dispersement of their wages.
The protestors grieved that the daily wage of Rs.350/- is not been dispersed to them and that the contractors pay them only partial amounts and swindle the remaining, they outraged. They also urged that the shortage of labour in the sanitation department had to be resolved on priority. Along with the wages of Rs. 350/- they also demanded for a weekly off and appealed to raise their standards of safety, as they work in very adverse conditions.
The labourers grieved that several petitions filed by them to the concerning authorities have been ignored and pleaded that necessary action plan should be initiated by the officials to fulfil their reasonable demands.
