The recent series of elephant deaths around the terrain has caused severe turmoil amongst the forest officials and environmentalists.

In the hope to put an end to the series of deaths of the elephants the priests of Karumariamman Temple, Addis Street, Grey town performed a special Pooja at the temple. A special Abhishekam to the Ganapathy deity along with a Mahaganapathi Yaagam was performed by offering 108 rice balls, sugarcane, jaggery and millets. The locals participated in the rituals and prayed for the pachyderm's welfare. The Pooja organisers also requested that the Government of Tamilnadu should formulate preventive measures to ensure the safety of wild animals.
