Nest Home, a city based NGO for protecting and educating the people on House Sparrows conducted a seminar at AVB Matriculation Higher Secondary school, Periyanaickenpalayam.
Mr. Anand Madhivannan and Sandeep Kumar, Founder and Vice President of this Organization imparted the students with crucial reasons for the dwindling population of house sparrows . Mr. Anand works as a News Correspondent at Deccan Chronicle and Mr. Sandeep is a Sidha Doctor by profession.
Anand revealed to the gathering, that the structural changes made at homes have led to the paucity of house sparrow population big time. Nowadays homes are constructed very compactly without spacing for backyards, these structural changes have impacted adversely for the dearth of Sparrow population, he stated.

The Sparrows thrive on granule foods like millets that were usually spread at the backyards for drying and also the waste food particles from the sinks of the kitchen were also a major part of food for the sparrows. There are neither backyards nor food for the little birds to survive today, he lamented. The session was presented in a very gripping and informative manner, the students fervently participated in the interactive session as well.
Further, Anand apprised that every weekend they have been installing nests at places around the city after scrutinising the amicability of the place towards Sparrow nesting. The crew will also educate the residents about feeding practices of Sparrows and maintaining their nests, he added.
Close to 400 students participated in the seminar along with the administrative team of the School. Those interested in setting up sparrow nests may contact Nest Home at 98940-20567, 94425-04154, 90433-34958, 94424-25048
