Consumption of poisonous berries kills two labourers

A group of 15 contractual labourers from Manapparai, Trichy district have been deployed for road laying work in the Alandurai - Vellingiri route.

On 8th July, while on their way back home after work, they had picked some wild berries found on the sides of the reserve area. They deemed those berries edible and made curries out if it for dinner.

The next day morning Palanisamy aged 48, fainted off while few others complained of uneasiness. The co-workers rushed them to the government hospital. On examination, it was reported that they had been poisoned due to the intake of poisonous wild berries unknowingly.

All the victims were undergoing critical treatment at the ICU, unfortunately Palanisamy was declared dead yesterday morning. Today, Santhanam aged 60 passed away and his mate Kannan (58) is reported to be in a very critical state.

This unexpected incident has startled the people around the area and they were alerted to stay away from consuming those poisonous berries.
