A rare liver surgery was performed at the VGM hospital by Chief surgeon, Dr. G.V. Mohanprasad. A 52-year-old lady from Sennimalai, Erode was diagnosed with a rare premalignant tumor called Hepatobiliary Cystadenoma.The tumor had spread from her liver into the pathway through which bile juice flows from the liver into the small intestine.
The expertise crew of doctors at VGM performed a highly complicated surgery and removed the affected side of the liver and leaving 35% of the liver, which was ascertained to be healthy. It is a very complicated procedure than a total liver transplant, as the patient would be still be having a functional liver and intact biliary drainage system, stated the Chief Surgeon, Dr. G.V. Mohanprasad.
