The ambitious Smart City plan with an allocated budget of 98,000 crore rupees. Through a model of joint central and state funding, together with private contribution, the Smart City initiative will develop 100 Smart Cities across various States and Union Territories of India in its first phase, with the year 2019 as its timeline for completion.

Coimbatore city has been selected for support under the Smart City Mission, launched by Ministry of Urban Development (MOUD), Government of India this year. As part of the initialisation, German Ambassadors along with delegation have arrived in Coimbatore to discuss in detail about the perspectives of the Smart City project. A series of meeting have been lined-up with high officials of various departments like Corporation. They have planned to meet the District Collector and officials to discuss the feasibility of the project. Today evening, a press meet has been organised at Vivanta Taj to brief the press about the ongoing project.
