Injured elephant dies at Mangarai

The heart-rending elephant death incident due to train collision today morning has put the animal lovers and forest officials in despair. As it marks the 10th pachyderm to pass away in a period of 40 days.

It's saddening to report, that presently the count has gone to 11.

Yet another elephant death has been reported at Mangarai, just a few hours ago.

The locals near a brick kiln have spotted an elephant along with its calf, which seemed to be very ill and tired. The forest officials were intimated about the incident and they rushed to the spot and discovered that the calf has been suffering injuries around its trunk region.

The forest officials managed to separate the calf from its mother and provided adequate critical treatment for the ailment. But the treatments provided were in vain, as the calf passed away, a little while ago.

It is surmised that a month ago, this deceased calf came in contact with a bait by accident (low-intensity cracker) and acquired severe injuries around its facial area.

The two elephant deaths within a span of eight hours have put the city in a state of grief.
