Bangladesh detains 10 for possessing fake currency notes

Nine foreigners and a Bangladeshi woman were arrested in a raid here for possessing counterfeit foreign currency and fake note-making materials, police said on Monday.

“A unit of ours raided the house at Bashundhara area last night and detained the 10 people, nine being foreigners, along with fake currencies and equipment to produce the counterfeit notes,” a spokesman of the elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) told PTI.

“Huge amount of counterfeit” foreign currency was recovered from their possession, officials said without giving details of the exact amount.

Nationalities of the foreigners were not immediately known.

The TV channels quoting unidentified sources said most of the detained foreigners were from different African countries while out of the 10, two were women and one of whom was a Bangladeshi.
