TNAU Predicts farm gate price for banana

The major banana produce in Tamilnadu are contributed by the the districts Theni, Trichy, Erode, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Thanjavur and Dindigul.

The insufficient monsoon rains, intense wind lashes and ground level water deficit has created a considerable backlog in banana cultivation, this year.

Based on a the fifteen year statistics on banana prices, the Price Forecasting Scheme of Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies (CARDS), TNAU has predicted the prices of Poovan, Karpooravalli and Nendran varieties of banana in Coimbatore.

The results indicate that the expected average farm gate price would be between Rs.23-25 per kg for Poovan, Rs. 27-29 per kg for Karpooravalli and Rs.36-38 per kg for Nendran, respectively.

Hence the farmers are requested to take buying and selling decisions based on the price predictions issued by TNAU.
