On August 5th, The Department of English and Foreign Languages, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, organized SHAKESPEARE 400 - LITERARY FEST 2016 to commemorate the 400th death anniversary of the world-renowned dramatist and poet William Shakespeare at the University.
The inaugural function of the Fest began with the welcome address by Prof. B. Padmanabhan, Organising Secretary - Shakespeare 400. The convenor of the event Prof. Dr. R. Saravana Selvan, Professor, and Head, Department of English, inaugurated the Fest.

Totally, 19 colleges across the state exhibited their talents and enthusiastically participated in the Drama, Poetry Reading, and Mono Acting competitions .
On addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the Department of English for organizing such a mega event in a very meticulous manner. He also cherished the participants from affiliated colleges and other colleges for their overwhelming responses and enthusiastic participation in the competitions. He rightly pointed out that this Literary Fest could be the fitting tribute to the literary legend, William Shakespeare. He also recorded his joy on seeing the true essence of literature in the blood and soul of every performer.
The Judges were honoured by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor followed by Prize Distribution to the winners. The Overall Championship Trophy was attained by Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Kavundampalayam, Coimbatore. J. Velanathan of Government Arts College, Coimbatore, won the Best Actor Award.
