District Collector T.N. Hariharan hoisted the National Flag at the VOC Park Grounds at 9:31 am in the presence of City Police Commissioner, A. Amalraj, Superintendent of Police, Ramya Bharathi, and other senior officers from various departments.



Home guards, Fire and Police Department paid their tribute through a thumping parade.


The Collector launched and announced new welfare schemes to commemorate the big day. The event was marked by awards and certificates to people for their achievements in various fields. The freedom fighters were also honoured by the Collector.

Around, Rs.2,23,43, 302 of special welfare funds were distributed to 144 people. 64 self-loan associations were funded with additional funds to motivate and promote new start ups.

The event was decorated with cultural events showcased by various educational institutions.

School children exhibited their patriotism through fabulous dances depicting the culture and integrity of our nation.


300 students from CSI School gave a stupendous group dance performance followed by Ondipudur Girls High school, who enthralled the audience with a wondrous dance.



Compared to all previous years, the public had gathered in large numbers to show their respect and patriotism on the eve of Independence day.
Several Government, Private, Educational Institutions, Residential Colonies celebrated the occasion with zeal & zest.
