ARRIVAL: A Film to Watch-out For

The trailer of Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi drama ARRIVAL promises to be different from the usual sci-fi flicks that our eyes and minds are used to. The trailer revolves around the idea of communication. This makes sense. I mean, what would actually happen if an alien civilization landed on our planet? I don't think they'd have an aggressive war agenda in their minds. They are supposedly the advanced species for god's sake, which should mean they should have a higher level of consciousness and war definitely won't be an agenda for such a species. They should have outgrown the concepts of total control, money and power. At least, in my opinion, that's the only way you could even start to work on unraveling the greater mysteries of life.

Amy Adams plays the role of a linguist/translator who is hired to communicate with the alien species who have landed on earth (quite a few landings I see there). The trailer doesn't  reveal much, but I'd be disappointed if it ends up in the usual cliche of war and disaster porn. The movie, I think, would skew more towards the psychological effects of what such a landing will bestow, both onto us as mankind and our relationship with the relatively unknown alien civilization itself.

ARRIVAL is being screened at the Venice International Film Festival this month and will see a worldwide release on November 11, 2016.
