As part of security measures during the forthcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the Coimbatore City Police has tightened the security around the city.
Deputy Commissioner (traffic) S. Saravanan reported that 'All necessary arrangements have been made for the upcoming Ganesha festival. The Police personnel who are deputed for festive duty are advised to follow the safety protocols very stringently to avoid any unforeseen incidents. The procession will commence on 7th September and the route maps for the event has been clearly charted out. We have taken utmost care to make sure the public's routine doesn't get affected due to the procession' he said.
'The officials have marked out the bumpy roads due to drainage works and open manholes at the procession routes. Regarding, the issue the Corporation authorities have been advised to closedown the drainage works and flatten the roads temporarily to facilitate smooth transition of the procession. The Electricity department has also taken all cautionary measures by lifting the live wires, so that the idols do not accidentally get in contact with the live high-voltage wires'.
'As far as the immersion sites are concerned, totally 7 sites have been identified for immersing the idols. But currently, the scarcity of water at the immersion sites has caused concern to the devotees and the officials. Hence, it is decided to rise the water levels by filling water artificially in the lakes. The devotees and volunteers of political outfits are asked to abide by the rules set by the Police and celebrate the festival with joy and responsibility', said Deputy Commissioner Traffic.
