10-month old baby dies of dengue fever


Parmesh and Prabha are a couple living with their 10-month old baby Prasanna, at Nehru Street, Thudiyalur. Prasanna had been suffering with fever for the past 10 days. The child was treated at the Government Hospital for the ailment. As the fever got aggravated, the baby’s blood sample was tested to rule out infections. The blood report indicated that the baby was positive for Dengue fever. The child was immediately shifted to the special dengue ward for critical treatment. However, not responding to the treatment, the child passed away today early morning.

It is reported that a couple of years back, Dhanshika, 3-year-old child of Kalidas from Nehru Street also died due Dengue fever. And Nivedha (6) was also infected with Dengue and lost her hearing, post treatment.

Hence, the Nehru Street and Gandhi Street residents pertaining to Ward No:2 have alleged that the sanitary standards in their streets have been very poor and the corporation staffs have been very irregular in clearing the wastes from their area and the whole area has been infested with mosquitos and flies.
