Girl returning from school forced to drink acid by two boys: Delhi Police

A 16-year-old Class X student returning home from school was allegedly waylaid by two boys who forced her to drink “acid” in southeast Delhi’s Kalkaji area, said police Thursday.

The incident happened Wednesday noon and the two boys who targeted her, barely 200 metres from her school, were allegedly in school uniform as well, police added.

The girl is admitted to Safdarjung hospital, where her condition is stated to be critical but stable.

Dr A K Rai, Medical Superintendent, Safdarjung Hospital, “The girl is medical condition is critical. She is presently in the intensive care unit (ICU). She has acute respiratory distress syndrome.”

On a complaint by the girl’s family, a case was registered at Kalkaji police station under sections related to acid attack. Police said the girl’s statement was yet to be recorded and her family’s allegation that she was forced to drink “acid” was yet to be corroborated.

The girl’s mother said, “The school staff did not bother to call me immediately. They called me after half-an-hour. When I went there, I found my daughter was vomiting. They told me it might due to an upset stomach or acid problems. I took her home, where she narrated the whole incident.” She said her daughter did not know the boys who made her drink “a yellow coloured liquid”.

“After they fled, leaving my daughter unconscious, somebody saw her lying on the roadside and took her back to the school,” she said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said they had collected CCTV footage from around the alleged crime spot. “The probe is on but we will wait for the girl’s statement,” he said.
