The Department of Women’s Studies, Bharathiar University have organized a one-day UGC Sponsored Faculty Development Program on the topic 'Women and Bio Diversity, today.
Dr.Zenetta Rosaline, Professor/Director, Department of Women’s Studies, welcomed the gathering. Dr Ajoy Mathew. Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor, BSMED, Bharathiar University, delivered the presidential address.
Dr. Rupa Gunaseelan, Professor, Department of BSMED, Bharathiar University, felicitated the program. In her speech, she illustrated two examples to highlight the importance of the cultivation. Ms.K.Yashodha, IFS, Extension Officer, Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Chief guest of the program, delivered the inaugural address, and pointed out the historical events of preventing the forest from degradation (Chipko Movement).
Dr.C.Kunnhikannan, Head of Division, Division of Bio Diversity, Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, served as a resource person, and highlighted the significance of "Floristic Diversity and Role of Women in its Conservation”.
Dr. Goldin Quadros, Senior Scientist, Division of Wetland Ecology. Salim ali Center for ornithology and Natural History (SACON), highlighted the “Role of Women in its Conservation of Biodiversity in Marine and Freshwater Ecosystem”. Dr. P. Pramed, Principle Scientist. Division of Nature Education, Salim Ali Center for ornithology and Natural History elaborated on “Faunal diversity and conservation with special reference to role of Women”.
Dr. Kamalaveni delivered the vote of thanks. 38 faculties participated in the lecture.
