'Rose day' a special day dedicated for the Cancer patients, was celebrated at the KMCH Hospital, Avinashi Road.
'Rose day' is observed globally, in the memory of 12-year-old girl Melinda Rose from Canada, who was diagnosed with a rare form of Blood Cancer. Doctors predicted that she will not survive more than a couple of weeks, but she lived six months more. During that period, she cheered up other cancer patients and their caregivers with her letters, poems, and emails.

District Collector T.N, Hariharan was the Chief guest for the event. Dr. Thavamani Palanisami inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. Dr. N.Sudhakar, Senior Oncologist, KMCH Hospital, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Nalla.G. Palanisami, Chairman of KMCH Group of Institutions presided over the function. Gnanasambandan, Tamil scholar, orator, and actor was the guest of honour.


G. Gnanasambandan, through his motivating speech, advised the cancer patients to 'believe' and maintain a positive attitude during the treatment period.

The hospital staff & management along with members of 'Canserv' greeted the patients in the cancer ward with flowers, to make them feel good and positive. Entertainment programmes were conducted for the patients by the Canserv group. A member of the support group recited a poem written by him. Dr. R. Subramaniam, radiation oncologist spoke on the importance of the support group. All oncologists from the KMCH hospitals participated in the event and honoured the guests.

Dr. Nalla. G. Palanisami in his speech highlighted the facilities available at their comprehensive cancer center. He affirmed that cancer can be cured, if diagnosed at an early stage and under proper treatment and diagnosis. He lauded the efforts of the doctorts of the oncology department for their dedication and care towrads the victims to fight the disease.

Dr. Subramaniam, Consultant Radiation Oncologist, highlighted the contributions of the Canserv support group.
