After experiencing a total shutdown and violence, our city is presently calm. However, in few parts of the city, shops, commercial establishments, petrol pumps still remain closed. Shops and showrooms still remain closed at all 'sensitive areas', with additional police force deployed round-the-clock. 3000 police personnel have been deployed and 108 people have been arrested for indulging in riots.
It is reported that the bus drivers are hesitant to operate, as yesterday buses were targeted and pillaged by the rioters. Presently, only few buses are operating within the city and to nearby districts. Some miscreants have been threatening the shop owners to close down the shops in Gandhipuram Cross Cut Road, Raja Street, Thudiyalur, sources say.

'Violence in any form for any reason is highly condemnable but at this point as responsible citizens it is very important to stay away from spreading rumours and unverified forwards through whatsApp, Facebook and create unnecessary perturbation in the city. Upon, experiencing any unforeseen incidents, people may contact the police control room, instead. Let's bring back peace and solidarity back to our City'
In a press meet yesterday, DGP T.K. Rajendran affirmed that the violence in the city has been controlled. He reassured that the police department has taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the public and there is no need to panic.
