'Sensitive voting booths identified' says District Collector TN Hariharan


The District Collector T.N. Hariharan, today evening briefed the press, regarding the arrangements planned for the upcoming local body elections. 

The local body elections have been scheduled in two phases. During the first phase, the elections for Coimbatore Corporation, three municipalities - Pollachi, Mettupalayam and Valparai along with seven Town Panchayats and three Union Panchayats will be held on 17th October, 2016. On 19th October, the second phase of elections for 30 town panchayats and 9 union panchayats will take place. 

Out of the 30,19,857 voters in the district of Coimbatore, 1414988 voters are eligible to cast their votes under Coimbatore Corporation. 67 Election Officers, 427 Asst. Election Officers will be deputed for election duty, he said. 12092 poling officers will be deputed to handle the voting during the first phase of elections and 12009 booth officers will handle the elections on the second phase. 

'Out of 3650 booths, 1197 are within the limits of Coimbatore Corporation, out of that, 654 booths have been marked as 'sensitive' while 13 other booths as 'most sensitive'. Hence, security arrangements have been planned accordingly. The sensitive booths would be strictly monitored', he said.

'Totally 2185 electronic poling machines will be used at the Corporation and Municipalities. For, Panchayats, 2185 ballot boxes will be at use. 27 centres have been identified for counting of votes', he said.

The political parties or public can avail the nomination applications from Corporation office, Municipality or Panchayat offices, respectively.
