The fourth edition of the Vodafone Coimbatore Marathon was more than just successful. About 12,500 runners participated in the three race categories of this annual marathon this morning. The half-marathon, 21-kilometer run, 10-kilometer run and the five - kilometre walk/ run were flagged off at Nehru Stadium and this marathon concluded at Stanes School grounds.

A cash prize of rupees 2.5 lakhs was distributed to winners of each category. A cash reward was also distributed to winners of the special senior citizen's category too. The entire route of this marathon was equipped with facilities like ambulances on stand-by, medical staff, traffic marshal, direction boards snacks and refreshment disbursement centres and monitoring centres.
Bibs of runners who participated in the 10-kilometer and 21-kilometer run had timing devices installed to record the accurate time of the individual runners.

Management Trustee of Coimbatore Cancer foundation Dr. Balaji stated that “It all started in 2014. The immense response we received was from the people of the city was really surprising. The experience we've gained through organising the Marathon and support of the people have been a huge motivation for us to continue this journey for the past four years. The funds that have been collected through this Marathon have been thoroughly used for benefiting the cancer victims and their families to fight the disease. As we run to bring happiness and smiles to the faces of the cancer victims, we ask the people of the city to join us in this journey.” Dr. Balaji said.
Director, Ramesh Ponnusamy, said “The people have responded so well since the day we announced the registrations for the Marathon.

This edition of the marathon had participants from across our country. Marathon in recent times has been gaining importance and popularity next to sports. The fourth edition of the Vodafone Coimbatore Marathon has been a benchmark Marathon, as the organising committee has addressed to all the issues and has been successfully running it for the past four years.” Ramesh said.
This marathon was organized by Vodafone in association with Coimbatore Cancer Foundation, Athletes Association, Coimbatore runners and Show space events.
