Usha from Chennai was separated from her husband. She has been living in Coimbatore with Evangeline, her five-year-old daughter. She developed a live-in relationship with Mahendran who is also from Chennai. The couple have been staying together in Kattoor in the city. This Monday, when Usha made a trip to Chennai she left Evangeline in the care of Mahendran.
The same day, an unconscious Evangeline was rushed to the Government Hospital (GH) by Mahendran. Usha was informed over the phone by Mahendran that her daughter is suffering from breathing difficulty. The five-year-old child was undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of GH. Not responding to treatment, Evangeline breathed her last.
The team of specialists who treated this child at the GH noticed injury marks on this child’s body. Her body was sent for post mortem. The post mortem results revealed that the five-year-old girl was raped and subsequently murdered. A case was registered by the Gandhipuram police.
Since this news of the girl’s death broke, Mahendran went into hiding. However, the police traced and arrested him. Mahendran confessed raping and killing Evangeline. While doing a background check, it also came to light that in Chennai several cases have been registered against Mahendran for his involvement in theft and burglary.
