Madras High Court has extended the ban on conducting local body elections

Madras High Court today confirmed that the order on ban to conduct the local body elections in Tamil Nadu will continue. The state Elections Commission (EC) has filed a petition in the Madras High Court. ECs petition was treated as an urgent case at the Madras High Court. In an order the Madras High Court stated that the ban on conducting local body elections will continue. The hearing of the EC in this matter has been rescheduled to the 18th of this month.

The Madras High Court agreed that there are many irregularities with the poll notifications. Initially, local body elections were announced on September 25.  The elections were scheduled to be conducted on October 17 and 19.
