Massive clean up drive lasted all night long in city

About 35 CCMC vehicles, four containers of 20-ton capacity each, ten open body lorries, seven .3-ton container lorries, fifteen .5-ton container lorries, two 5-ton container lorries, four JCBs and almost 65 sanitary workers were involved in a special operation to clean 225-tons of organic waste from the roads from wards #23, 24 and 25 last night. Poo Market and the streets in R S Puram fall under these wards. The organic waste that was collected was sent to the corporation vermin composting plant.



This clean-up drive that lasted all night is an initiative of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) Commissioner, Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan. Radhakrishnan, Zonal Sanitary Officer (ZSO) West, R. Gunesekaran, Zonal Sanitary Officer (ZSO) Central, Murgesan, Ward Supervisor, Ward #24, Kabeer, Ward Supervisor, Ward #25 participated in this operation.

Speaking to SimpliCity post the clean-up drive, Radhakrishnan shares “We started the clean-up drive at 10 in the night and the operation continued till 4 the following morning. About 32 sanitary workers from Central Zone and 30 sanitary workers from West Zone participated in this clean-up drive.” Radhakrishnan says.



“During this festival season, the street vendors dumped the unsold produce on the streets. Residents too cleaned their homes for this festival. The public dustbins on these three wards were filled to their capacity and the streets too were littered. With the men and materiel we cleaned the streets” Gunesekaran says.



We are told that this cleaning drive will be implemented tonight at the Gandhipuram and Town Hall areas that fall under Ward #54 of the Central Zone.
