Senior Leader of Communist Party of India arrested

Four hundred people including senior Communist Party leader Nallakanu were arrested near Karur for protesting against sand mining. It was reported that a sand quarry is functioning near Kadamban Kurichi in Karur district. Demanding the closure of this quarry, today, more than 400 people under the leadership of Nalakannu, Vanniyarasu of Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Party, Director Gowthaman and cadres of various political parties protested in front of the quarry. Police arrested the protestors. Nallakannu  when speaking to the media said that due to illegal mining the drinking water resources are effected in the area.
