With the aim of setting up libraries at the Corporation and Government schools and in order to decrease the level of student absenteeism, Dr. Kalam Library project was started by city-based NGO The Arc Foundation under the guidance of Dr Vijay Karthikeyan, Commissioner, Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC). Under this project, this NGO has plans of setting up one-hundred libraries in and around our city that can be accessed by school children who would otherwise not have the chance of visiting a library. This project came into being last year on October 15.Tomorrow, is the first anniversary of the Dr. Kalam Library project.

As part of the celebrations, a mobile application and a website for the Dr. Kalam Library project were launched in our city today. The mobile app and the website are user-friendly we are told. The two platforms will allow individuals who wish to donate in cash and in kind make their donation towards this cause. The platforms will also allow users adopt a library and volunteer towards this cause.

Starting today, October 14, for a fortnight, The Arc Foundation has started their book-a-thon concept. As a part of this initiative, a drop box has been placed at the Fun Mall in our city.
