Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) today hosted its 37th convocation ceremony at the university’s convocation hall today. Tamil Nadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao presided over this function. The Chancellor announced invocation and declared the convocation open.
Prof. Dr. K Ramasamy, Vice-Chancellor (VC), TNAU welcomed the gathering. He serves as the 12th VC of this university. In his address he brought to light the achievements of the students and scientists of this university.
“The strength of TNAU is only because of its scientists and students and this blend responsible to keep TNAU in the lime light because of their contributions at various levels: contributing dependently at student level, contributing independently during academic research, contributing through others as research leaders and contributing strategically as research managers.” Dr. Ramasamy said.
Throwing light on the rankings of universities in the agriculture sector, Dr. Ramasamy said “In the MHRD/UGC ranking of research organizations during 2016 across the country TNAU maintained 40th rank at national level and 4th rank at state level 2016. TNAU stood in the range of 131-140 among the top 250 institutions of BRICS nations. Out of 44 Indian institutions that found a place in QS-BRICS 2016 ranking, TNAU got 22nd ranking. Out of seven institutions from Tamil Nadu TNAU was in 3rd position. Across three SAUs participated TNAU remained in the first.” he said.
At the 37th convocation ceremony, degree certificates were awarded to 1,229 candidates who attended the ceremony in person and 640 candidates in absentia.
