As a part of World Food Day celebrations and also to commemorate its first anniversary celebrations, city-based NGO Food Bank today hosted a massive food distribution drive in Coimbatore today. This NGO strictly works on the concept of distribution food that is prepared for those who cannot afford the same. The volunteers of this organization avoid collecting and distributing food that is left over.
Over 50 members and volunteers of Food Bank gathered at the VOC Park this morning and from here they embarked on their food distribution drive. A few volunteers picked up food from homes of donors. Today too good Samaritan pitched in food packets, biscuits, fruits and water bottles that were distributed to the needy in various pockets in our city.

As a part of this food distribution drive a total of 1089 packets of food, 530 pieces of south Indian snack, 547 packets of biscuits, 50 loaves of bread, 50 assorted sweets, 12-kgs of a variety of fruits and 300 bottles of water were distributed in areas like Ramanathapuram, Puliyakulam, RS Puram, Town Hall, Podanur, Vadavalli, Railway Station , Thadagam, Saibaba Colony, Poo Market, Gandhipuram, Peelamadu, KG Theater/Hospital, Govt Arts College Road, Oppanakara Street, 5 Corner, Race Course, Sungam, Cross Cut Road, Power House, 100 Feet Road, Sukrawarpet, North Coimbatore, Kaundampalayam, Cowley Brown Road, Lawley Road, Thudiyalur, Nanjundapuram, Sundarapuram, Kuniyamuthur, Red Fields, Perur, Selvapuram, Ukkadam, Lakshmi Mills, Hopes and Gandhi park.
A few volunteers of Food Bank also distributed to the inmates of city-based orphanages like Satya Jeevan Home in Podanur, Mercy Home, Puliyakulam, Karunai Illam, Koundampalayam, Anbu Illam, Perur, Anugraha Charity Trust, Universal Peace Foundation, St Michael’s Home, Saranalaya Girl’s Home, Love and Grace Home, Families for Children, Night Shelter Old Age Home.
