Volunteers of city-based NGO The Arc Foundation performed a mime show that conveyed the importance of cleanliness. This was as part of the Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya (SBSV) programme that was organized for the students of the Corporation Elementary School Ratnapuri. This programme has been initiated by The Arc Foundation in partnership with the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC). Corporation Commissioner, Dr. Vijay Karthikeyan launched this programme this morning at this school. SBSV mission is supported by Rotary Coimbatore Main, Fun Republic Mall and Vestige Technologies Limited.

In his address to the students of this school, Corporation Commissioner emphasised on the importance of adopting the basics of hygiene. “We must adopt the basics of cleanliness and hygiene. Wash your hands thoroughly well before and after every meal.” Dr Vijay Karthikeyan said.

Seconding him was Thirumal, Head, Swachh Bharat Mission Coimbatore who advised the school kids not to encourage open defecation. “We must work towards keeping our surroundings clean. Regardless of where you are, in school or at home, always follow the basics of cleanliness and hygiene. Spread this message of cleanliness and hygiene.” Thirumal said.
The formal programme began with the ice-breaking session. This was followed by the volunteers of The Arc Foundation introducing the students of this school to the safe and appropriate techniques of cleanliness and hygiene. Hand washing techniques were also demonstrated.

The SBSV poster was unveiled today at this school. Founders of The Arc Foundation share with us they have plans of implementing the SBSV programme in 82 Corporation Schools in our city.
