'Early diagnosis and right treatment can cure cancer', says Dr. Palanivelu, Chairman, GEM Hospitals

Globally several people die of cancer every year. Thus, it has earned the reputation of being a killer disease. A handful of patients who suffer this disease survive. “Early diagnoses and treatment in the right direction can save many more people who suffer from cancer. As of today, Laparoscopic treatment for cancer can be used to treat this disease. These patients are a testimony to this fact.” Dr. C. Palanivelu, Chairman, GEM Hospitals and Research Centre said.

Today this city-based hospital organised an interactive session for cancer survivors called ‘Celebrating Life’. This event was hosted in partnership with Rotary International to honour cancer survivors who have fought and won their battle with cancer. About 40 cancer survivors came face to face with the public and each one of them shared their story.

At this session, Dr. C. Palanivelu told the audience that GEM Hospitals continues to introduce initiatives to spread awareness about treatment that is available to cure cancer. In this regard, this hospital has joined hands with G-36 Clubs of Rotary for the ‘Care for Life’ initiative. Under this programme, free laparoscopic medical care or laparoscopic treatment at a subsidised cost is offered to patients who suffer from cancer. Several people have already benefited from this programme and the two organisations aim at reaching out to many more cancer patients through this initiative.

Prakash Angapan, Rotary Club 3201 District Governor, Varadaragan, Vice District Governor and additional governor also participated in ‘Celebrating Life’ event.
