Coimbatore city Municipal Corporation (CCMC) in association with Aram Foundation Charitable Trust today commenced the 'Special guidance and counseling sessions' for the nominated students of the corporation higher secondary and high schools of class 8 to 12.
This initiative will be shortly extended to all the 16 schools in a phased manner in their respective school camps. The second phase of this project was kick started at Okkiliyar colony Higher Sec School recently.

A special team under the leadership of Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Dr Vijay Karthikeyan are working on this project. The team members include Dr Vijayakumar MD, Neuro psychologist, RVB Madhavan - Aram’s Counsellor, Ramesan and Kaliappan Educationists, Lathasundaram Psychologist and Jayalakshmi Gururajan, Social worker.
Under the phase 1 of this project, the school students were offered general counselling sessions. At these sessions students were offered solutions to common problems relating to adolescence, academics, memory, fear of future, complexes, exam fear, lack of motivation, habits and parent teacher student relationship issues. This had benefited over 10,500 students. This also alleviated the fear from the minds of those students who attend the second phase.

Under the second phase of this project, Dr Vijayakumar addresses the four broad categories of issues namely- Academics, Abuse, Parental Issues and Habits and addictions. This is followed by an individual session with the Neuro Psychologist. At these sessions students will be offered solutions and action plan for related issues.. The case files of each of the students are maintained for regular follow up.

A press release from the Aram Foundation Charitable Trust stated that these sessions are are organised for the fourth year in succession and hence a trust worthy rapport has been established. The students open up their minds instantly when they have a problem.
The team of volunteers who are associated with this project also have weekly appraisal sessions with the Commissioner Dr Vijayakarthikeyan for appropriate advise and measures to be taken.
