One dead, five injured in fire accident at IAS coaching centre in Gandhipark, RS Puram

At around 3 this noon, fire broke out at KPR IAS Coaching academy in Gandhipark, RS Puram. Close to 60 students were present in the centre at the time of accident.

It is believed that a short-circuit from the UPS could have caused this fire accident. Apparently, fire crackers that are meant for distribution were stored in the ground floor of this building. The fire crackers acted as catalyst and spread the fire to the whole building.

In this fire accident the in-house library of this coaching institution was completely engulfed. It took two fire tenders and 45-minutes to put off the fire. The inmates of this coaching academy including its 60 students who were attempting the mock examination at the time of this fire accident and staff were all safely evacuated. However, Sakthivel (23) a student of the academy died in the accident.

About five people, Gayathri, Vijayalakshmi, Aranganathan, Selvaraj and Sakthivel became unconscious due to the suffocation. An ambulance rushed them to the government hospital. Unfortunately, Sakthivel (23) died in the hospital.

District Collector, TN Hariharan and Commissioner of Police A. Amalraj visited the spot of the fire accident. A thorough investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause of this fire accident.
