In a press release issued by the Southern Railway, it was stated that work of replacing steel girders at the Madukkarai Railway Station yard will be carried out on 23rd and 24th of this month. The three girders of the bridge have already been replaced during the work taken in the first week this month. The remaining two steel girders of the road under bridge will be replaced with concrete girders during the period.
This bridge enables the crossing of Palakkad - Coimbatore Road beneath the railway track at Madukkarai Yard. Therefore, the road traffic to Coimbatore from the Palakkad-Salem Highway will be affected during the above work. The road will be blocked from morning 6 am to 3 pm on October 23 and 24.
The road traffic will be diverted through Madukkarai Market Road during the above period on both the days. However, the press release stated that no passenger carrying train will be cancelled on this account. A few trains will be delayed en route from 10 minutes to half an hour on both the days.
