Exclusive: Cyber crime cell warns people to handle their online transactions with utmost care.

The recent incident demanding the arrest of a 21-year-old for involving in cyber crime through online purchase and swindling 10 lakhs worth of goods and cash has sent shock waves to the people of the city.

The cyber cell department of our city has issued warnings to the people to be aware of the nature of the frauds and fraudsters engaged in such crimes.

Speaking to SimpliCity, Cyber Crime department Inspector Rajan, shared the present scenario of cyber crime and the responsibility of the people to annihilate such crimes.

'Close to 300 cases have been registered this year, on cyber crime incidents. We have been regularly issuing cautionary advices to people to abstain from sharing their credit/debit card, PIN information, CVV numbers, storing passwords/usernames in the system and login pages to others. Such confidential information should under no circumstance dealt lethargically and change of passwords at regular intervals is recommended. It's the educated people who are becoming a victim to cyber crime than the uneducated.

People should go in person and register their pin numbers while swiping at malls, shopping places, hotel, restaurants etc. But unfortunately not understanding the veracity of the crimes and criminals behind these incidents, people give their cards and pin numbers to the shop keepers and at restaurants for swiping their cards. There are high chances that their card number and pin could be replicated as a new card and swiped else where or used for online transactions.

Upon encountering such fraudulent incidents, though people block their bank/credit card accounts, it becomes very laborious to trace down the fraudsters and recover their lost money' said Inspector Rajan from Cyber Cell, Coimbatore.
