A group of members from Tamil Puligal party led by V. Marx, District Secretary of the party today petitioned to the Collector seeking action against city Corporation for deploying graduates in sanitation works and also to create better opportunities for them at the Corporation.
As per the law, posting for the kith and kin of deceased sanitary worker at corporation has been in practice. If a sanitary worker loses life while on duty, his son or daughter automatically becomes eligible to take over his position.
'Likewise, close to 20 graduates- sons and daughters of deceased sanitary workers have been allotted with sanitary jobs by our city corporation. Despite they possessing educational qualification, allotting them with the jobs carried out by their parents is totally unfair. It indirectly means that people born in Arundhati community is deemed to carry on with only sanitation jobs, irrespective of their education, which is highly condemnable', they said.
The petitioners demanded the District Collector to intervene in the issue and secure better job opportunities for those affected. The attire of the petitioners wearing graduation dresses and caps garnered the attention of the public and the offcials at the Collectorate.
