2 killed in Kannagi Nagar in gang war over selling marijuana

Two men were murdered in Kannagi Nagar close to Chennai's IT hub due to gang rivalry and establishing supremacy over selling marijuana.

Kannagi Nagar was chosen by Tamil Nadu Government and Slum Clearance Board as a site to move nearly 1,250 families from the slums of Chennai city. The planned area falls parallel to the OMR IT highway. A quick relocation plan without any survey about the people's sustainability has turned the area into an unlawful zone.

Gang Wars

On Sunday, Kaliya aka Ranjith Kumar and his friend Harbour Miller were murdered over a gang rivalry on selling marijuana in the area.

Kaliya was relocated to Kannagi Nagar from slums of Chennai beach and had created his niche for selling drugs and was involved in other illegal activities for many years.

Recently, Sengottaiyan and his gang who sell drugs as well were moved in from New Washermanpet and clashed with Ranjith and his friends. As tensions soared between them, Kaliya and his friend attacked Sengottaiyan, his friend Sakthivel and wounded them badly.

Hearing of the attack, Sengottaiyan's gang tracked Kaliya and killed him and his accomplice, Miller, and threw their bodies in a sewage drain.

The bodies have been sent for autopsy and Sengottaiyan along with his friend Sakthivel for have been admitted for treatment in Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital.
