The special police team has nabbed three people who orchestrated an outrageous act of looting last month at a Cotton-merchant's residence by impersonating as Income Tax Officials.
Nearly a dozen men posed as Income Tax officials visited the home of Basheer, a city-based cotton merchant of Ramanujam Nagar, Singanallur to conduct a IT raid in his home. The gang of men who approached Basheer's residence in two cars claimed to have received orders from the senior officials to conduct a raid for unaccounted cash and assets.
Upon search, the gang seized rupees 40-lakhs in cash and 157-sovereigns of gold from this cotton merchants home. In the pretext of taking him to the Income Tax office, the men took the home owner in one of their cars and dropped him at Chinnipalayam and sped away. As soon as Basheer realised that the raid was cooked-up, he immediately filed a complaint with the Singanallur police station. Three special teams were formed to nab the gang of culprits involved in this crime.
In a break through, the Singanallur police have nabbed three men from the gang. It has been reported that the accused are being interrogated by the police in an undisclosed location and that the police is trying to ascertain the modus operandi of the gang. The special team deployed are also on the lookout for other culprits of the gang who were involved in this crime.
