Commercial establishments, heads and representatives of various NGOs, environmentalists among others participated in this meeting.
Considering the harm plastics pose to the water bodies and the environment. Anything that is made out of plastic doesn't decompose, instead stands as a hurdle for the rain water to penetrate the surface. The hazardous nature if the plastics on a long run could lead to perilous effects on sustainability of the environment, said Special Officer, CCMC. Hence, he urged the traders to refrain from encouraging the usage of plastic in their establishments.

At this meeting he also shared with the participants that one-hundred commercial establishments have volunteered to give up using plastic bags in their business. A certificate of appreciation would be awarded to all the participating commercial establishments. The CCMC also plans to organise a series of awareness campaigns involving traders educating them to terminate usage of plastic and choose eco-friendly methods.
Apart from the commercial establishments and traders, special officer CMCC shared that it is the responsibility of every customer to say no to plastic bags. Instead shoppers must carry with them their own cloth bags or eco-friendly bags. This can go a long way in reducing the usage of plastic bags, he added.
